Lay Days

Swimming Pools When we arrived at the location the first day the swell had been big overnight and it left brilliant blue swimming pools up on the beach, it looked like your own private LA pool. I haven't been to all the beaches in the word but I think it's safe to say this is one of the top 5. The best kind of towel Ali did great straight of the bat and her boyfriend was even on set, I thought this would work out bad but it turns out he's a legend and was comfortable with it all. About 15 minutes into the second day is where Ali opened up and everything just started to click after that. I definitely also want to thank Jamie at Lay Day towels for pr...

GO TO SHOOT
The Cull

Shooting with Tess I had previously worked with Tess for a short video we did in Bali. During the shoot she got bitten all over her body by some kind of beach menace, she insisted on continuing to shoot. We ending up calling the shoot off however it was such a testament to her personality to want to continue on with a smile on her face. It was therefore an easy decision for me to call her up to photograph again. A political influence This particular shoot was loosely based around the ongoing debate to the culling of sharks in the south west of Australia. It was a few months after the issue was quite heated in the media and I think we flew under the...

GO TO SHOOT
The Forrest

Contagious smile This was the second day of shooting and it really did have a more relaxed feel to it. It was pretty cold that morning yet I counted close to 50 images with Tess’s huge contagious smile in them. We really had no set theme for this one, it was more go with the flow and I like to think the rawness of this approach shows in some of the images....

GO TO SHOOT
The Turtle Hut

The first attempt This was the very first shoot I tried in this kind of style, I had been wanting to photograph in this style before but had either never set the time aside or just never gone for it. I decided to give Catie a call whom I have been good friends with for some time now and see what she thought of the idea. We caught up for coffee that day and she was instantly interested. Challenges I’m extremely grateful for Catie putting herself on the line, having never seen any photography like this from me before she really was going out on a limb. We shot in 2 locations this day, starting at the place she woke up and finishing in the harsh m...

GO TO SHOOT
Light & Grain

Whats it like shooting with Catie? Catie is an absolute pleasure to work with, she is always keen to try new things and really gives it 100%. She has a dancers background and the natural flow and sense of her body is visible on set. Often times I would look away to search for a new location or take a break and turn around to find her pose had completely changed. Any mistakes? Too many to mention, I purposefully broke one of my own long standing rules of straight horizons…regret that. It’s always a learning curve and there will always be mistakes, if I ever do a shoot without any then I obviously didn’t set the challenge high enough....
